There are few things more transcendent than silently floating over the endless plains of the Serengeti, watching the rising sun turn the land into a palette of soft peach and gold. A bird’s eye view lends a completely different perspective as you track antelope nuzzling through the bush, giraffe pruning trees, and elephant taking a morning bath in a watering hole. An hour later, a gentle thud brings you back to earth, where a breakfast spread completes your journey.
If we have to choose, we’d plump for a hot-air balloon safari in the Serengeti. It’s less busy than other areas and you’ll dip and float over a range of landscapes. Depending on the time of year, you might even see the great migration.
The balloon pilot’s toast… “The Winds have welcomed you with softness. The Sun has blessed you with its warm hands….”
Some camps are located closer to the balloon take-off sites than others, and one of these is the award-winning Dunia, a beautiful tented camp in the central Serengeti. Depending on the time of year and location of the migration, we recommend combining a few nights here with another camp further north if your safari allows.
