Knowing where your food comes from is something we’re all a lot more conscious of these days. Many of the properties we work with are food-centric and some have extensive vegetable gardens that are occasionally raided by lettuce-loving antelope.
If fresh veggies get you excited, then Lewa Wilderness and Angama Mara are the places for you. It’s incredible to see these veggie gardens out in the wilderness and get to choose what you feel like for lunch. It’s literally a farm-to-fork experience.
Tanzania is known for its coffee and you can get cosy with the coffee bean at Gibbs farm in Arusha, perhaps spending the night here at the start of your northern circuit safari. Take a stroll through the coffee plantation, sniff the coffee beans, and observe the drying and grinding process before drinking the freshest cup of coffee you’ve ever sampled.
The rolling green hills of Uganda are also home to some of the world’s finest coffee estates. Pop in for a coffee and a tour to understand how this wonderful bean lands up in drinks at home.
For a smell and taste immersion, we can’t recommend a spice tour in Zanzibar enough. Spices have been an integral part of Zanzibar’s history since the 16th century, when it was a stop for ships on the spice route. The original seeds came from the east and Zanzibar’s climate proved perfect for growing. These plantations are commercial farms and supply to all over the world. There are smaller organic farms that host tours we recommend.
