Seychelles
Toes dusted in soft white sand, palm fronds rustling overhead, the sound of the sea lapping at the shore … this is what we think of when it comes to the Seychelles. These tropical islands are home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and a diverse range of marine and terrestrial life that will inspire even the most city-loving folk.
A wide range of small resorts dotted along the coastlines and on private islands provide an exclusive beach experience. Abundant coves and beaches ensure that it’s easy to find your own piece of hidden paradise.
The Seychelles archipelago comprises 115 islands, so it might be tricky to choose. Some are uninhibited and set aside for conservation, and others are exclusive resort private islands, but that still leaves our favourites: Praslin, La Digue and Mahé.
MAHE: Explore island life – beaches, markets, restaurants, and a wide choice of accommodation
LA DIGUE: Laid-back island with magnificent beaches
ISLANDS - ESCAPE THE WORLD: Zil Pasyon, Cousine, Des Roches, Alphonse or Denis Island
NORTH ISLAND: Ultimate in luxury and exclusivity.
PRASLIN: Forests and beaches with a lively island vibe. Great mix of activity and tranquillity.
Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago and home to the capital city of Victoria. This island is paradise for beach lovers, as it boasts more than 60 stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand. And if you’re into hiking, you’ll love exploring the lush tropical forests and hiking trails that wind across the island. Victoria is home to a bustling market, quaint shops and charming restaurants serving up delicious local cuisine.
Northeast of Mahé lies Praslin, the second-largest island and home to the famous Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This lush forest is where you will find the rare Coco de Mer palm tree, which produces the world’s largest nut. Immerse yourself in the pristine beaches, snorkelling, and diving in the turquoise waters ringing the island.
Just east of Praslin is La Digue, the third-largest island, and with probably the most laidback vibe. Rent a bicycle and explore the stunning beaches and rugged coastline to find your own private beach for a swim. Be sure to visit Anse Source d'Argent, one of the most photographed beaches in the world, with its unique granite boulders and crystal-clear waters, though we personally feel that a number of other beaches are just as photogenic.
If time and budget allow, we highly recommend visiting one of the more remote private islands such as Cousine, Desroches, Alphonse or Denis. These have only one resort on each of them, ensuring complete exclusivity and extraordinary luxury. Spacious private villas dotted around the islands allow you privacy from fellow guests — you can be as sociable as you like. For those wanting the ultimate in a luxury private tropical island experience, then North Island is for you.
Another option to consider is a multi-day catamaran ocean safari hopping between private islands. Many of these are protected areas and home to inspiring conservation projects. You’ll visit places that few others will get to and enjoy going where the wind takes you.
With so many idyllic islands and resorts on offer, it’s difficult to narrow down where to stay. We have a broad knowledge of all the islands, and a few standout favourites. Depending on your time constraints, budget and interests, we will craft a perfect itinerary.
The Seychelles boasts delightful sunny weather throughout the year; however, certain months offer more favorable conditions than others. From April to October, you can experience the peak travel season, characterized by gentle breezes and minimal rainfall. These months are particularly ideal for diving enthusiasts. November and December bring bright, warm days accompanied by a refreshing breeze. January to February marks the green season, characterized by hot days occasionally interrupted by brief rain showers that quickly dissipate.

The main inhabited islands are easy to move between and connected by ferries and smaller aircraft. Mahé, the main island, is home to the international airport, which receives various airlines, including Kenya Airways from Nairobi, making the Seychelles an ideal destination to combine with a safari.
We love a bit of island hopping! If you like to be independent, hire a car and explore Mahé, and from there take a ferry to La Digue, where your recommended mode of transport is a bicycle, personifying laid-back island life. Glorious Praslin is home to tropical forests and beautiful beaches, making it perfect for those who want a mix of activities and beach tranquility. Consider adding on a private island experience, or flying to the outer islands for the best diving and secluded relaxation.
The local currency is the rupee, but euros are widely accepted and are often used for diving, car hire, hotels, and park fees. The only time you will need rupees is if you visit a local market or restaurant. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and lodges. Dollars are also accepted, but euros are the preferred currency.
